‘Venus De Milo’ — This sculpture derives its name from the sculpture ‘Medici Venus’ which was stolen by Napolean Bonaparte from Italy. This statue became famous when it was returned in the year 1815 to Italy by the French. Around that time, a statue was unearthed from Greece which was older than the Medici Venus and resembled it. Since the Medici Venus was already famous, the French used a similar name to attract more eyeballs and to claim the fame of having a greater treasure than the one they had lost. That is the reason this statue though average as compared to some other masterpieces in Louvre is quite famous.
